Ajax, Pickering and Uxbridge stops

May 14, 2010 - 04:30 AM

DURHAM -- Artists from Ajax, Pickering and south Uxbridge Township are opening their doors to the public this weekend.

The Durham West Studio Tour, presented by the Durham West Arts Centre, features painters, potters, photographers, sculptors and other creative people May 15 and 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

The work ranges from the high realism of Ajax painter and News Advertiser columnist Allan O'Marra's oil paintings to the abstract paintings of Pickering's Laura Warburton.

In the northern part of the tour area, near Claremont, studio tourists can visit sculptors Fly Freeman and Francis Muscat at the same stop. Even further north, in the Goodwood and Coppins Corners areas, seven artists, including painters Christl Niemuller and Hanneke Koonstra, are welcoming the public.

There is no cost to take part in the self-guided tour.

To see a complete list of the participating artists and where you can find them, download a brochure/map at www.dwac.ca.
