By Jim Easson

An Annandale Curling Club Junior Mixed team is one of the eight teams that will compete for an Ontario curling championship this week.

Josh Hall teams up with Spencer Anderson, James McPherson, Yvonne Lalonde and coach Donna Hall. They will be in Marmora and Area Curling Club to compete in a "horse race" playdown, as the round-robin winner will be the champion.

Annandale Curling Club will again be hosting the OCA Silver Tankard Ontario finals on Sunday, April 5. Our Region will be represented by teams to be determined on April 4. Other upcoming events at the club include the closing banquet April 17 followed by the Last Chance Bonspiel April 18 and 19.

League play at Annandale is winding down. The Competitive Ladies have their last draw next week and then they have a closing banquet next week. The Competitive Men's League has the final draws this week and then there will be playdowns.

Scheduled to take place at the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie, Alta. from April 14-19, the Grey Power Players' Championship will include both a men's and a women's draw featuring Canada's top teams. The Grey Power Players' Championship will be the eighth and final 2008-09 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series events. The top men's and women's teams on the Capital One Cup standings following the Grey Power Players' Championship will each receive $50,000. The second and third place men's and women's squads will each receive $25,000 and $10,000 respectively.

Team Glenn Howard, with Pickering resident Richard Hart at vice, and the front end of Brent Laing and Craig Savill is the defending champion, and the $25,000 first place purse is a great incentive to repeat. Sixteen top teams are entered, and eight will qualify for a share of the $100,000 purse.
