AJAX -- Annandale Curling Club curlers swept up both sides of the draw at the five-team junior mixed zone playdown at the Oshawa Curling Club on Feb. 14 and 15.

Michael Bryson with the team of Emily Lindsay, Sandy Martin and Carly Bee with coach John Lindsay won the 'A' side. Meanwhile, Josh Hall teamed up with Spencer Anderson, James McPherson and Yvonne Lalonde and coach Donna Hall to capture the 'B' side.

Both teams now advance to the regionals in Fenelon Falls on March 7 and 8.

An Annandale bantam rink also won on Oshawa ice, too, at the six-team mixed bantam zone event. Laura Arbour, Jake McGhee, with two competitive members and coach Jennifer McGhee won the 'A' side of the draw. Former Annandale member Ben Bevan, now curling out of the Whitby club, took the 'B' side.

The teams qualified for the regionals in Fenelon Falls on March 7 and 8.

Annandale has two teams entered in the mixed zones playdowns at the Oshawa Curling Club on Feb. 21 and 22. Blair Metrakos skips the team of Kathleen Johnson, Richard Peach and Chantal Peach. Tim March skips the other entry.

Two of nine teams at zones will advance to the regionals at the Whitby Curling Club on March 7 and 8.

---

Chris Van Huyse skipped an Annandale team of Blair Metrakos, Andrew Klein and Scott March to victory in the OCA Colts Regional Playdown at East York on Feb. 14 and 15.

The team now advances to the Ontario final at Leaside on March 18. The competition ends at East York as there is no national championship.

---

Next at Annandale is the Ladies' Olympic Bonspiel on Feb. 21. The event's draw is full. Teams will play two eight-end games and use a 'skins format'. The team accumulating the most 'skins' will win a cash prize and the opportunity to compete in the Melitta Bonspiel of Champions.

The 18th annual SPINAL TAP MIXED BONSPIEL, the premier event in the Shoot For A Cure Curling campaign, that previously had raised more than $250,000 for spinal injury research, added a further $70,000 on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Thornhill Country Club.

Olympic and world champion curlers donated their time to the cause. Team Glenn Howard, with Pickering resident Richard Hart at vice, and Brent Laing and Craig Savill appeared, along with Jennifer Jones, Joan McCusker, Mike Harris, Cathy Overton-Clapham, Sherry Middaugh, and two-time world champion Ed 'The Wrench' Werenich.
